Instant Pot Refried Beans


Ingredients

  • 1 pound dried pinto beans
  • 7 cups of water
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 3 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons bacon fat or olive oil

Instructions

  1. Put the dried pinto beans in a large bowl and cover them with water; pick out any damaged beans, or stone or debris.
  2. Discard the water
  3. Put everything in the instant pot, cover the pot, seal the lid
  4. Chose bean/chili button and set to 45 minutes
  5. Let pressure release naturally
  6. Place large sieve over a bowl and drain the liquid
  7. Return the beans from the sieve to the instant pot and add a little bit of liquid.
  8. Use immersion blender to make smooth add more liquid if needed. Salt and pepper to taste.
